Defending Randy Moss
Randy Moss told Fox Sports radio this week that he was unconcerned about the Raiders “slow” start, mainly because “nobody else was (concerned)”. He later went on to add that management was discouraging veterans from providing leadership within the struggling club and that he wouldn’t mind be traded if it would help the team. Nothing much new here from someone who has been a malcontent for most of his career. It might be tough to feel empathy for a guy who bullies meter maids and takes every third play “off” but in this case, Randy Moss might actually be a victim of the debacle now known as the Oakland Raiders. Moss is without question a phenomenal talent and is well on his way to a first ballot Hall of Fame career. Through his first eight years, Moss averaged 79 catches for 1268 yards and 12 touchdowns. While often dinged, he’s missed just four career games due to injury. No mean feat for a wide receiver. Through three games this year, Randy Moss has seven catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. He might have a beef if it weren’t for the fact that he leads the club in receiving. Oakland quarterbacks are 27-70 (38.6%) averaging 108.6 ypg. (32nd) with a touchdown and four interceptions. They’ve been sacked 19 times for 115 yards and have a combined rating of 39.2. The Raiders opened the season losing to San Diego and Baltimore by a combined 55-6 and last week returned off their bye to blow an 18 point lead at home to the previously winless Browns. The possibility of a winless season is a very real. “The Raiders are on the clock” jokes are not so funny. Walk into any Sports Bar tonight and strike up a conversation on the NFL’s great receivers and Moss’ name is likely to not even be brought up. Well it might – Santana Moss. Randy Moss is a complete waste in Oakland. Say what you want about Randy Moss, I honestly believe he’s all about winning. For a player of this caliber to have thrown in the towel (“I’m not really even thinking about football, just thinking about enjoying life”) in Week Five is unconscionable! The Raiders should do themselves, the league, and the fans a huge favor. Find Randy Moss a new home.
