How To Turn Your Golfing Pastime Into A Ticket To College
Do you love the game of golf? Is being out in the sun trying to capture that elusive hole in one, a dream come true? Why not put your skills to use and gain a scholarship to the college or university of your choice? Did you even know that many colleges and universities offer golf scholarships? You are not alone. Few realize that a passion for golf can help gain affordable entry into a college or university that meets and exceeds many dreams. It is not hard to receive one of these scholarships, but it does take a little marketing. Golf scholarships are usually only partial scholarships. They will not cover the entire cost of your education, but every little bit helps. The good news is that because they are only partial, there are more of them. It is easier to get a golf scholarship than it is a baseball, football, or hockey scholarship. Odds are high that you can nab a partial scholarship to the school of your choice. There are more than 280 colleges for men and around 215 colleges for women that offer golf programs at a division one level. For division two, there are around 185 colleges for men and 90 colleges for women that offer golfing. This means there are more than 3,500 scholarships available for both men and women. Not every school offers a golfing program, so you will need to check carefully to see if the schools on your list have them. If not, you may need to be adaptable to where you get your college education. The most important trick is to make yourself know to golfing scouts. Play golf in high school if possible, some schools offer golf as an extracurricular sport. Get to know the different coaches. Be subtle, but charm them into knowing and remembering your name. Play well and make sure they know you are excelling. To gain a golfing scholarship, you will need to contact the colleges that make your list and then ask them for information on the program. You will need to pay attention to the rules of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.) They have strict rules that must be followed, but they also keep detailed lists of all available scholarships and offer information for both students and parents. When applying for a golfing scholarship, you will need to prove you excelled at both golf and in school. Read all applications carefully and provide all of the necessary forms.
