White Sun (The Soul)
We are basically very egoistic beings sometimes to the extent of becoming like animals in this modern time. Look at the way we fight amongst ourselves to attain all those worthless materialistic wants. Senseless fight for social recognition vide material acquirement, setting aside all moral values, forgetting that we are sentient beings with conscience, not knowing why we are here on earth and where we go after that. We are so engrossed and blinded that we lose our self respect, no noble love for our fellow sentient beings, become selfish, greedy, violence and some even ended up losing complete sanity and become insane. It is really sad to see the reality of modern life and how many can live in peace without fearing for each other? Many would say that if they have a choice, they would not want to be part of this crazy modern world and prefer the life thousands of years ago. The constant struggles and cannot resist being drawn into the whirlpool of insane materialistic desire. We have to do what the others do or be crushed. In this struggle, who will win? No one! An eye for an eye and a life for a life, this is the reality. My Chinese friend can speak Indian, so he has many Indian friends in Malaysia. If the Western Leader can speak Arabic to Muslim Leader, maybe there will be peace when they meet face to face and all fighting will stop. Who am I? Who are you? Where did we come from? Where will we go? When will we die? If there is so much suffering here on earth, then is this hell? How often do we ever contemplate on these questions and try to find the solution. Time and tide wait for no man. All too soon the candle light will go off and then we may only realize life is so short. Whatever knowledge and material gains we acquire is superficial, for we came empty handed and we will depart empty handed too. Nobody can take anything away, you and me, we are the same. Life is the form of a physical existence, and like all physical matter, it must come to an end one day. The body is the physical form but who exist in the body? Many people believe there is a soul which is formless and eternal which must be saved. Soul is the real being, our divine-self that gives life to the human body. A living person has a soul inside him and a corpse doesn’t have. Although both are of physical forms, with the same outward appearance, the corpse shows the obvious absence of a spiritual soul. The corpse is just a body without a soul. The spirit is invisible and unlike the materialistic worldly form we called body. The body is just a mere image, a temporary refuge for our true, divine form during our life span on earth. It is this spiritual soul of ours that lives on after our worldly form has ceased and disintegrated into dust. We must then care for this soul well and treasure it like gold. Our spiritual soul lives on to greater joy or suffering depending on what we do on earth while living. Firstly is not to kill but killing is everywhere. Revenge never stops. It can only be stopped by nature through fire from the sky, water from the sea and the killer wind which man has never seen before one day called “Gang Feng” in Chinese. In the temple of Tao of Heaven, Goddess of Mercy said, “Let thousands of people receive the light of mercifulness. Let thousands of people bathe in the great grace of heaven. Let thousands of people transcend from the sea of sufferings. Do not compare with others. Do not compete with others. Establish a right objective. Do not hesitate and do not hinder yourself. Accept the sufferings and live with the sufferings. Feel the tragedies of mankind. Give joyousness whenever required. Show mercy, in return you shall receive mercy.” If only we could show mercy to our fellow beings and think of all as brothers and sisters in this suffering world of ours where the only thing that matters is the soul, then the world will be at peace. We sometimes treat our cat better than our aged parents; this is something we have to ponder why. White or black or Arab, we are all one and the same, like a big family on earth. Author: T. A.
