Eastern Idaho State Fair
Blackfoot, Idaho’s 10,600 population swells to four times that number Labor Day Weekend when the Eastern Idaho State Fair opens. It runs another eight days delighting thousands of visitors. This fair, set in a town that boasts of being the potato capital of the world, features horse racing with Para mutual betting. An historic Indian Relay Race is an annual favorite event. Motocross offers the contemporary excitement of man and machine racing together towards the finish line. This is an old state fair with a rich history. Its fairground was commandeered for various purposes during and after WWII. Among other things the buildings were used to house Italian prisoners which prevented the fair from being held a few years during the 40’s. It soon returned to normal and continued to increase in popularity. Persons who travel to Idaho for the Eastern Idaho State Fair may find that camping in area campgrounds will allow the best way to enjoy this natural setting. Woodlands and valley alike display indigenous flora and fauna. Travelers to this region should be prepared for a rugged adventure especially if leaving inhabited areas. Careful planning and proper equipment will help reduce the potential disasters that can be inherent in back country exploration.
